A Master Guide to Starting Audits

Unlock efficiency with multiple ways to launch your audits, from one-touch actions to powerful automation.

Method 1: The Templates List

This is the most direct and common way to begin an audit. The templates list provides a full view of all your available templates.

How to Start an Audit from the List:

  1. Navigate to the Templates tab in the app.
  2. Long press on the desired template to bring up the context menu.
  3. Tap Start Audit.
  4. A new audit is instantly created and opens, ready for you to begin.

Best For:

This method is ideal for your standard workflow, especially when you need to browse and select from a variety of different templates.

Method 2: Home Screen Quick Actions

For maximum speed, you can start your most-used audits without even opening the app.

How to Use Quick Actions:

  1. From your device’s Home Screen, long press the Audit Plus app icon.
  2. A menu will appear, showing up to three of your most recently used favorite templates.
  3. Tap a template name to instantly create and open a new audit.

Pro Tip: Curate Your Quick Actions

Only templates you’ve marked as a favorite (by tapping the star icon) will appear in this menu. Keep your favorite list updated with the templates you use most often to make this feature incredibly powerful.

Launching your most frequent, routine audits—like daily checklists or safety inspections—in a single tap.

Method 3: Automation with Shortcuts

Integrate Audit Plus with Apple’s Shortcuts app to create powerful, automated workflows.

Setting Up an Audit Shortcut:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app.
  2. Tap the + icon to create a new shortcut.
  3. Search for and add the Create Audit action from Audit Plus.
  4. Configure the action by selecting a required Template and optionally pre-filling the Conducted By field.
  5. Give your shortcut a name (e.g., “Start Daily Safety Check”) and save it.

Unleash the Power of Shortcuts:

  • Siri Voice Commands: Assign a phrase like “Hey Siri, start my vehicle inspection” to run a shortcut hands-free.
  • Home Screen Icons: Add any shortcut to your Home Screen for one-tap access, creating an icon for a specific audit.
  • Automation: Trigger audits automatically based on time of day, arriving at a location, or connecting to a specific Wi-Fi network.

Power users who want to automate repetitive tasks, integrate audits into larger workflows, or use voice commands for convenience.

Other Ways to Start Audits

Previewing from the Template Editor

While editing a template, you can see how it will look and feel for the end-user. From the editor’s toolbar menu, select Preview or Test Template. This opens a temporary, non-savable audit. This is strictly for testing and does not create a permanent file.

Sharing and File Management

You can also create an audit by sharing a template. Use the share icon on a template and choose to export it as an audit file (.apaudit). You can then save this file or share it. Tapping the `.apaudit` file will open it as a new audit in the app.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Why aren’t my Quick Actions showing up?

Make sure the templates you want to see are marked as favorites. The list shows your most recently used favorites, so you may need to use a template for it to appear.

Why did my Shortcut stop working?

This usually happens if the template linked in the shortcut was renamed or deleted. Edit the shortcut and re-select the correct template.

Why can’t I start an audit from a specific template?

If you are a free user, you are limited to starting audits from templates that have 10 or fewer questions. An upgrade to Premium is required to use larger templates.
